Congratulations to HELI 2013 alumna Jie Chen, PhD, on her recent R01 supplement award from the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD)!
The new project, ‘Explore the Impact of Hospital Payment Models and Care Coordination on ADRD Prevention and Treatment,’ is a $363,902 award supplement to Dr. Chen’s NIH R01 award that developed her “System-level Multidisciplinary Integration for popuLation health and Equity” (SMILE) project. It supports research to reduce health disparities among people with risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), and improve treatment for people with ADRD. Because people with Alzheimer’s disease are at increased risk for hospitalization, alternative payment models to reimburse providers have been explored to reduce costs and encourage care coordination for these high-risk patients.
Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management at the University of Maryland School of Public Health.
