What is HELI?

Read our 2017 publication describing the HELI model.

The UW Collaborative Center for Health Equity’s HELI program (pronounced Heal-ee, as in ‘healing’) has been designed in partnership with our academic collaborators at the Maryland Center for Health Equity in the School of Public Health, University of Maryland College Park.

HELI is an annual, weeklong research and leadership immersion program focused on increasing the number of investigators, particularly minority investigators, engaged in health disparities research to achieve health equity. The HELI program is carefully structured to include both large didactic sessions, as well as small group sessions, special events, and mentoring opportunities.

Target Audience

The HELI program is primarily intended for early stage research investigators. Applicants must have completed their doctoral program before attending HELI. Applications will only be considered from post-doctoral fellows, assistant professors, or individuals in similar early stage research career positions who are engaged in minority health and health disparities research. Early career researchers from diverse backgrounds interested in the conduct of health research, within academic, community-based, non-profit, and other non-academic settings, are encouraged to apply.
