What is HELI?

Read our 2017 publication describing the HELI model.

The UW Collaborative Center for Health Equity (CCHE) is committed to increasing the number of investigators, particularly minority investigators, engaged in health disparities/health equity research who are successful in academic appointments and achieving independent funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies.

Our HELI program (pronounced Heal-ee, as in ‘healing’) has been designed in partnership with our academic collaborators at the Maryland Center for Health Equity in the School of Public Health, University of Maryland College Park. The HELI program is carefully structured to include both large didactic sessions, as well as small group sessions, special events, and mentoring opportunities.

Target Audience

The HELI program is primarily intended for early stage research investigators. Applicants must have completed their doctoral program before attending HELI. Applications will only be considered from post-doctoral fellows, assistant professors, or individuals in similar early stage research career positions who are engaged in minority health and health disparities research. Early career researchers from diverse backgrounds interested in the conduct of health research, within academic, community-based, non-profit, and other non-academic settings, are encouraged to apply.

Context matters! If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact us to discuss options and opportunities at cche@hslc.wisc.edu.
