We are delighted to congratulate two HELI alumni & instructors on their recent pilot grant awards from the UW-Madison Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (ICTR) ~
Carmen Valdez, PhD, Associate Professor in Counseling Psychology in the School of Education, HELI 2012, has secured an ICTR Dissemination & Implementation Research Award of $150,000 for 18 months for her project, Building the Capacity of Schools to Address the Social and Emotional Needs of Latino Students and Their Families: Implementation and Evaluation of the Fortalezas Familiares Program in Schools. Her UW Program Partner is the Wisconsin Center for Education Research and her community collaborators are the 16th Street Community Health Center, Catholic Charities, Madison Metropolitan School District, Rogers InHealth, St. Anthony School Milwaukee, Sue McKenzie, Rogers Memorial Hospital/InHealth.
Earlise Ward, PhD, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, HELI 2010, has secured an ICTR Stakeholder and Patient Engaged Research Award of $100,000 for 12 months for her project, Faith and Community in Action: Increasing Knowledge and Management of Depression in African American Communities. Her academic collaborators are Elizabeth Cox, MD, PhD, and Toni Ziegler, PhD, and her community partner is the Second Baptist Church in Madison, WI.
