Dr. Edward Vargas

Congratulations to HELI 2015 Alum Edward Vargas, PhD, on his recent NSF award!

Dr. Vargas, along with co-PIs Dr. Lorrie Frasure-Yokley, Dr. Matt Barreto, and Dr. Janelle Wong, have received nearly $1 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support the 2020 Collaborative Multiracial Post-Election Survey (CMPS). This is the fourth installment of the CMPS and it will be the largest endeavor to date – encompassing 20,000 respondents and conducted in five languages. The survey will be conducted following the 2020 election and remain in the field through early 2021.

Dr. Vargas is an Assistant Professor in the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University. Before his appointment at ASU, Dr. Vargas completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the Health Disparities Research Scholars (HDRS) Program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. He was awarded a 2016 ICTR AHEAD Pilot Award for his project, ‘Socio-Political Context and the Health of Latina/o Populations,’ mentored by Dr. Carmen Valdez.

Congratulations, Dr. Vargas, and continued best wishes!
