We wish all the best to HELI 2012 alum Carmen Valdez, PhD, on her new position at the University of Texas at Austin starting this Fall!
Dr. Valdez will be working as Senior Community Based Participatory Research faculty in the Department of Population Health for the Dell Medical School. Dr. Valdez will also be involved in collaborating with researchers and health officials in Mexico where UT has established a satellite research infrastructure to advance scholarship around migration, deportation, and health equity and wellness, all perfectly aligned with her expertise and skills. She will work with colleagues across the UT campus in these efforts, and particularly with the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, where she will have a joint appointment.
Before she departs for the Lone Star State, we’re excited that Dr. Valdez will lend instruction as Faculty at our 2018 Health Equity Leadership Institute in June. We’re honored to have worked with her over 12 years and look forward to continued collaboration with her and her new colleagues in Texas!
