Thank you to HELI 2016 alum Alvin Thomas, PhD, for sharing the recent Palo Alto University Center for Excellence in Diversity 2016-2017 Annual Report with us.
The Center for Excellence in Diversity, co-directed by Dr. Joyce Chu and Dr. Alvin Thomas, was established in September 2010 at Palo Alto University by Stanley Sue. Aims of the Center are to initiate, coordinate, and promote activities that enhance PAU as a national resource for culturally competent research, training, and services for diverse or underserved populations, primarily in the realm of psychology, counseling, and mental health.

Dr. Thomas is the Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Diversity, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology, and a clinical psychologist whose work focuses on the risk and protective factors for African American boys who are situated in conditions that imperil them toward negative outcomes. This is closely related to his overall interest in ethnic identity, father-son relationships, and mental health in men and boys. His current work explores training gaps in diversity training specifically related to father (nonresident) involvement in service provision to their children.
Impressive work, congratulations Dr. Thomas!
