CCHE is pleased to congratulate HELI 2016 alum Alvin Thomas, PhD, on his acceptance to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s New Connections Eleventh Bi-Annual Symposium taking place at the University of Massachusetts Boston on July 12-13th!
Dr. Thomas is Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Diversity & Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University in California. He is a clinical psychologist whose work focuses on the risk and protective factors for African American boys who are situated in conditions that imperil them toward negative outcomes. This is closely related to his overall interest in ethnic identity, father-son relationships, and mental health in men and boys.
The New Connections Symposium aims to increase the visibility and enhance the skills of New Connections grantees, network members, and potential grant applicants. New Connections scholars are early-career researchers from historically underrepresented groups and participation in the Symposium is by invitation only, with priority given to those who have not previously participated in a New Connections major training event.
Best wishes in Boston, Dr. Thomas!
