CCHE would like to share a resource via the UW-Madison Cancer Health Disparities Initiative (CHDI) in the UW Carbone Cancer Center. HELI Alumni may find this useful and/or have avenues to disseminate this resource!
CHDI is pleased to announce the release of the Spanish version of Cancer Clear & Simple – ¡El cáncer claro y sencillo (CCyS)! El cáncer claro y sencillo was developed to serve the Latino population in the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s service area and can be adapted for Latino communities anywhere. CHDI developed this Spanish version of its popular CC&S materials after receiving requests from community organizations, clinics and other cancer centers.
The new materials include a 3 module curriculum on cancer basics, prevention and screening, plus multiple topical handouts. Cancer Clear & Simple is a health literacy informed cancer curriculum that provides individuals with basic cancer information in order to make good health decisions for themselves and their families. Originally developed for rural communities, CC&S has been adapted for African American communities, and is currently being distributed statewide in partnership with UW-Extension.
CHDI partnered with Centro Hispano of Dane County to adapt and pilot test the translated Spanish materials, with additional support provided through the Latino Health Council and philanthropy funds. Pilot test results showed that participants increased their cancer knowledge and intent to make healthy behavior changes.
