Congratulations to HELI Alumna Dr. Tisha Felder!

CCHE is thrilled to offer our congratulations to our Health Equity Leadership Institute 2011 Alumna, Dr. Tisha Felder!

Dr. Felder recently received a K01 award from the National Cancer Institute, 2015-2020! Her proposed K01 research will address a significant gap in our knowledge of modifiable factors that influence breast cancer survivors’ adherence to adjuvant hormonal therapy (AHT), and will result in the development of a theory-based, multi-level intervention that may improve AHT adherence among racial/ethnic and socioeconomically-disadvantaged (e.g., Medicaid-insured) survivors who experience excess rates of breast cancer mortality. This intervention will be the first of its kind and has the potential to improve AHT adherence in an underserved population known for poor AHT adherence rates and for being disproportionately affected by breast cancer disparities.

Dr. Felder is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Core Faculty with the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina.  While her proposal wasn’t ready for a Mock Review at HELI 2011, in 2014 CCHE introduced Dr. Felder to Dr. Amye Tevaarwerk (Carbone Cancer Center), who reviewed her proposal and provided feedback. Dr. Felder notes that Dr. Tevaarwerk’s advice truly strengthened the overall application!

Congratulations and best of luck, Dr. Felder and thank you Dr. Tevaarwerk!!
